There are many types of saws on the market, and we have featured a good deal on our site already, but none of them compare to a reciprocating saw in terms of power and mobility. It is not the most accurate tool you could use but it will go through a car door, a tree trunk or even an engine block like a hot knife through butter. It is the one saw that we think everyone should have in their tool shed simply because you can never predict when one will become extremely useful. As you can probably tell we are very excited about this type of saw and that is why we went out and tried as many as we could until we came up with, what we would call, the comprehensive list of the best reciprocation saw options of 2014. We do have one that is better and more impressive than all the rest, but it is also quite expensive, so we have looked at several different options, for different users and different pocket sizes. So make sure you scroll past the initial table where we have given you the most significant details for each saw, and check out the in depth review we have given each of our choices.

1. DEWALT DCS380M1 20V Max Lithium Ion Reciprocating Saw Kit
As we have already told you, there is one reciprocating saw that stands out over all the others in terms of both performance and price. It is the DeWalt DCS380M1 reciprocating saw. It is powered by a 20 V lithium ion rechargeable battery making it fully mobile and, because of the very powerful battery, an incredibly strong saw. It will match any corded reciprocating saw against any type of material, but you can still control all that power with ease because of the variable speed trigger. It allows you to set the speed of cutting from 0 to anywhere up to 300 strokes per minutes, or spm. In the package you also get a sleek carrying case and a battery, and there is room for a second battery in the case, should you decide to buy one. You can also control the depth of the cut by changing the position of the shoe so you will be able to protect the tip of the blade in some of those more superficial jobs. And there is one other thing that we absolutely love about the fact that the oil chamber is double sealed so it will be protected from various contaminants. You should also take into consideration the fact that the DeWalt DCS380M1 received a 4.9 star rating on Amazon from actual customers who have tried and judged it according to the price range it is in.
2. PORTER CABLE PCC670B 20-volt MAX Lithium Bare Reciprocating Saw
In the interest of full disclosure we have to admit the fact that you can get roughly the same technical specifications of the DeWalt for half the price, by buying the Porter Cable PCC670B. It too uses a 20 V battery to deliver a maximum 300 spm, and you can even control the rate of the strokes from 0 to 300. However you will have to buy the battery separately and you will be hard pressed to find a case that will perfectly hold the reciprocating saw. The fact of the matter is that, ultimately, you will still be paying less for the Porter Cable saw than for the DeWalt, but we still prefer the DeWalt because there every little detail is taken care of. Still, you should take into consideration the fact that, from a technical stand point, the Porter Cable PCC670B is an excellent machine, with a self adjusting shoe so that it stays in contact with the cutting material. Also, consider the fact that it has earned a 4.8 star rating on Amazon, which is pretty high considering the other machines it is being compared to.
3. DEWALT Bare-Tool DC385B 18-Volt Cordless Reciprocating Saw
We had a pretty hard time deciding whether the Porter Cable or the DeWalt DC385B should take the number 2 spot. The truth is most of us are DeWalt fans and trust the brand itself to come up with reliant, high performance machines. The DeWalt DC385B is in the same price as the Porter Cable and it too does not come with a carrying case or a battery. However, we had to demote it to third place because it only uses an 18 volt battery. It is still strong enough to cut through any type of material from steel bars to multi layered floors, but the fact remains that the battery is just not as strong as the Porter Cable. We do love and need to point out the fact that it has a keyless blade clamp that allows you to change blades in less than a minute, and a blade clamp that can be set into 4 positions so you can more easily reach and cut into difficult or narrow areas.
4. Bosch RS7 1-1/8-Inch 11 Amp Reciprocating Saw
If you are going to go with a wired reciprocating saw, our opinion is that the best you can do is the Bosch RS7. As you know Bosch are not known for their extremely competitive prices, but they have made a point out of creating some of the most reliable and powerful tools on the market. To give you an idea why we love the Bosch RS7 so much consider the fact that it has an 11 Amps motor and a dual LED lighting system that will allow you to see exactly what are you cutting. It has the most comfortable ergonomic handle we have had the chance to try and you can change the speed of the blade from the trigger itself. You can also change the blade in a matter of seconds due to the tool-less design of the blade grip.
5. DEWALT DW310K 12 Amp Heavy-Duty Reciprocating Saw Kit
Of course, whatever product Bosch puts on the market DeWalt will match or even try to out class, and that is exactly what the DeWalt DW310K is all about. For starters, it has a 12 Amps motor that moves the blade from anywhere between 0 and 2700 strokes per minute. It has the standard keyless blade clamp, that allows you to change the blade in an instant, and it also has a keyless adjustable shoe. That feature allows you to change the depth of cutting from 1/8 of an inch to a whole inch so you do not run the risk of damaging the tip of the blade. Given that, in this case, the Bosch is actually cheaper than the DeWalt, we would still go with the Bosch, despite that 1 Amp drop in power, because we know they can compensate through the quality of the workmanship and the parts they use.
6. Milwaukee 6519-30 12 Amp Sawzall Reciprocating Saw
As we move into the second part of our list we need to point out the fact that these reciprocating saws should not be anyone’s first choice, but they do have some interesting features. The Milwaukee 6519-30, for example, uses a powerful 12 Amp motor, but it is quite a heavy saw and it may be more difficult to use. However, the one thing that really makes this an excellent choice for people with no or little practical experience, is the fact that it has a gear protection system in the clutch that protects the motor. So if you keep making cuts that are too deep and hitting the tip of the blade, the motor itself will not be damaged; you will, of course, ruin the blade, but that is to be expected in the beginning.
7. PORTER-CABLE PC85TRSOK 8.5-Amp Orbital Reciprocating Saw
The reason why we decided to feature the Porter Cable PC85TRSOK is the fact that it has a very good orbital action feature. It allows for extremely aggressive cutting through wood and that more than makes up for the fact that it only has an 8.5 amps motor. The fact of the matter is that for wood work the 8.5 Amps are more than enough, and that would make the PC85TRSOK an excellent choice for carpenters and the like.
8. SKIL 9216-01 120-Volt 9-Amp Reciprocating Saw
The obvious reason why we decided to feature the Skil 9216-01 in our search for the best reciprocation saw of 2014 is the fact that it costs so much less than anything else on the market at the moment, and yet, it has earned a 4.4 star rating on Amazon from almost 50 customers. It has managed such an impressive performance because of its relatively powerful 9 Amps motor and the extra durable housing on the gear system that will allow you to use the Skill 9216-01 reciprocating saw for decades on end.
9. Black & Decker BDCR20B 20V Max Lithium Bare Reciprocating Saw
We did not feature the Black & Decker BDCR20B in the beginning of our list because it is a relatively new model of reciprocating saw and it does not have a track record. We have tested it and were quite impressed with the power generated by its 20 V battery. We also loved the fact that the bare tool is so affordable that, even after you buy the battery you still come under budget. The only problem is that it is too new and we cannot be certain of how well it would fair after 3 years of intensive use.
10. PORTER-CABLE PC75TRS 7.5 Amp Reciprocating Saw
We are going to close with what we came the call the kiddies reciprocating saw, the Porter Cable PC75TRS. It only has a 7.5 Amps motor, but, considering its price, it is extremely light. It is not something you should buy if you are planning to chop up cars, but, if you need it for wood work, than it is definitely a good choice.
