It can be very difficult to decide what the best to jump starter on the market today should be, since there are 2 dynamically different points of view that need to be taken into consideration. On the one hand there are the hard-core mechanics or car enthusiasts who are always going to go for the most powerful jump starter, just like any gamer will always go for the most powerful PC. However, car enthusiasts rarely and up in a situation where they need a jump starter, and it is more likely that people who think of their cars is just the means of getting from A to B, will need the occasional jumpstart. For them a jump starter has to be a convenient tool that is always on hand. We would actually have to agree more with the 2nd group but only marginally. So when we set out to create this top 10 we chose products that were the best in both categories. Anyone of these would make a suitable jump starter but some will fit the needs of some car owners better and others will be more to the liking of different set of car owners. So make sure to scroll down past the following list highlighting the most relevant details and read the in depth reviews we have created for each product so you will be able to decide which one is best for you.
1. Bolt Power G06 Portable 600 AMP Jump Starter
We are going to start with what we think of as the best of both worlds. Hard-core car enthusiasts are going to look at the Bolt Power G06 Portable 600 AMP Jump Starter and think that those 600 A are just barely strong enough to start a big SUV, and they are probably not going to be very impressed with it. But you will have to agree that it does get the job done, and you will have to agree that it is smaller than your regular size to jump starter. In fact that is and we like it so much is precisely that you can fit it in your glove compartment so it will always be on hand. More than that we appreciate the fact that the Bolt Power G06 Portable 600 AMP Jump Starter will actually work as the power bank of 16,500mAh. That means you can use the power adapters it comes with to charge your iPhone, Android smartphone, and almost any type of laptop you might have. That means you will get more use out of the Bolt Power G06 then you would from any other regular sized jump starter. The great thing about that besides the obvious, is that it will help you keep the jump starter always active, always charged, and as any battery expert tell you, a battery will enjoy a longer life as long as long as it is kept in active use.
2. Schumacher PSJ-2212 DSR ProSeries 2200 Peak Amps Jump Starter
Now that we have given you the best choice for non-car enthusiasts, we need to focus a little bit more on the options that will get the real gearheads excited. The Schumacher PSJ-2212 DSR ProSeries 2200 Peak Amps Jump Starter is what most people would recognize as a real jump starter. It has a peak power of 2200 A which is strong enough to turn over an 18 wheeler without breaking a sweat. Taking into consideration that it is more than 3 times as powerful as the Bolt Power G06 we have already talked about it should come as no surprise that it is also more than 3 times its size. And it does not really have its versatility. It does have a 12 V port to which you can connect almost any type of electrical equipment that you would use in a car. Of course that implicitly means you need to have a laptop charger for your car, a smart phone charger and anything else you would need to power up. Still, most car enthusiasts generally take good care of their car related gear, so it is not that important to design features that would encourage them to take care of their jump starter.
3. Clore JNC660 ‘Jump-N-Carry’ 1,700 Peak Amp 12-Volt Jump Starter
If you would like to have a regular full-sized jump starter, but do not really need that much power our 2nd choice for this type of jump starter, is the Clore JNC660 ‘Jump-N-Carry’ 1,700 Peak Amp 12-Volt Jump Starter. It is slightly less powerful than the Schumacher, but it is also slightly less expensive. It has a built-in charging port, so you do not have to bother about an exterior power adapter when charging the device. It too has a 12 V power plug so it can double as a power bank, although a slightly smaller one, but still it does not have the USB port we would have liked to see on any such a device. The other thing hard-core enthusiasts will appreciate is the fact that the power clamps can be changed when they get worn out.
4. Brightech – SCORPION – Car Jump Starter
Getting back to the glove compartment sized jump starters, an old favorite of ours is the Brightech – SCORPION – Car Jump Starter. It costs almost half the price of the Bolt Power G06, but then again it also has almost half its power. That is to say it has only 400 A of power, which is still more than enough to start your average sized family car, and only 10,000 mAh. It comes with all the power adapters you will need to charge your laptop, smartphone, iPhone or iPad, and a pair of mini-jumper clamps. The thing to remember about these clamps is that they are great if you are using the Brightech – SCORPION – Car Jump Starter to start your own car, or that of a friend. If you are planning to use this in a business setting, that is if you own a mechanic’s garage, then you should be aware of the fact that those clamps will wear out quite easily.
5. Revo Multi-Function Car Battery Jump Starter Booster Pack
One of the most interesting alternatives we have seen on the market for a mini jump starter, is the Revo Multi-Function Car Battery Jump Starter Booster Pack. There is nothing particularly or regional about it when compared to the ones we have already reviewed, but we do like its design, the fact that it is actually smaller than anything we have seen so far, and that it comes with its own carryall pouch. In terms of power it can deliver 14,000 mAh, but we could not find a peak power rating. Still by doing some simple math we were able to judge that it should deliver about 420 A of power to a car. Besides the carryall pouch you will also get all the adapters you need to charge anything from a laptop to an iPhone.
6. Antigravity Batteries AG-XP-10 USB
As long as you are willing to pay a little bit extra there is an alternative to the Bolt Power G06 that is somewhat smaller, and also comes with its own carryall pouch. We are talking of course about the Antigravity Batteries AG-XP-10 USB. It is the 600 A jump starter, strong enough to turn over even an SUV, and it has an 18,000 mAh power back. You also get all the cables and adapters you will need to charge your laptop or smartphone, and it comes with its own mini jumper clamps. It can be charged both from a wall socket and the power plug in your car so you can essentially work also as a power adapter, which may be very useful for photography enthusiasts who are always on the go.
7. PowerAll PBJS12000R Rosso
The PowerAll PBJS12000R Rosso is yet another alternative to the Bolt Power G06, although this one is a little bit weaker and also a little bit cheaper. It only has 12,000 mA and a peak power of 400 A. While the model we tested was as reliable as any we have seen, we decided not to feature it as one of our top 5 choices because there have been reports of power failure. Still there are plenty of users who have enjoyed it for long periods of time, and we ourselves have enjoyed it quite a lot. It will start even something as big as an SUV, but you should leave it connected to the battery for about 5 minutes before attempting to start the car. It does come with all the cables you will need to enjoy its many charging capabilities, but it does not have a carryall pouch so you will need to improvise something on your own.
8. Anker® Multi-Functional Car Jump Starter
We have had to leave the Anker® Multi-Functional Car Jump Starter as one of the last mini jump starters because it does not have the power adapters you would need to charge your phone or laptop. It does have a 12 V power adapter which we found quite impressive and actually useful, so we decided to feature it here. It does have an USB port so you can potentially plug in any smartphone cable and charge it directly from the power back, but it would be somewhat more difficult to charge a laptop. However the fact that it does not come with all those extra cables means that the carryall pouch it comes with it is almost as small as it is, so it is much more comfortable to store, particularly in a small car.
9. Stanley J5C09 1000 Peak Amp Jump Starter
As we start getting ready to finish our top 10 list of the best jump starters on the market, we are going to talk about 2 more regular sized jump starters. The Stanley J5C09 1000 Peak Amp Jump Starter is definitely more powerful than the mini jump starters we have talked about so far, but its most interesting feature, is its built-in compressor. That means you can use it not only to jumpstart the car in the morning, but also to check and fill tire pressure, and thanks to its USB port, you can use it to charge your iPhone or smartphone.
10. Black & Decker JUS300B 600 Peak Amp Low Profile Jump Starter
The last product we are going to talk about is the Black & Decker JUS300B 600 Peak Amp Low Profile Jump Starter. It has several features that would have made it our number 1 choice just a couple of years ago. It is reasonably powerful at 600 A, and it costs less than half of most other products on this list. However it does not offer anything more than the jump starting capability its name suggests, and in a world of multiple functions and huge power characteristics, the Black & Decker JUS300B 600 Peak Amp Low Profile Jump Starter is too much of an old-school choice to be featured as anything else than last super affordable resort.
